"THE LATE MR JOHN F. DEWAR.-- Amongst naturalists in all parts of the kingdom the announcement of the death of Mr John Farquharson Dewar, bird dealer and naturalist, will be received with deep regret. Recognised as the oldest naturalist in Scotland, Mr Dewar was one of the vice-presidents of the Scottish National Cage Bird Society, and his services as a judge, particularly of Belgian fanoy canaries, were much sought after in all parts of the country. A native of Musselburgh, Mr Dewar started business as a dealer of British and foreign birds, and carried on a flourishing establishment, in which poultry also bore & considerable part. A survivor of the old Edinburgh and Leith Society, he was one of the originators of the present Edinburgh Ornithological Society fifty-five years ago On the occasion of his jubilee as a naturalist, Mr Dewar was presented with an illuminated address by the National Scottish Cage Bird Society's members and friends. Mr Dewar, who was twice married, is survived by a large grown-up family."
