"Following a lenghty illness, Thomas Alexander Cavers passed away at the Princess Elizabeth hospital early Tuesday morning October 31, 1967. He was in his 78th year. Mr. Cavers was born at Carleton Place, Ontario, Nov 5, 1889 and came to Manitoba with his parents in 1891, settling on the farm in the Gowancroft district where he grew up and attended school. In 1912, he married Dora Agnes Godkin and farmed on the home farm at Pilot Mound for three years with his brother John, then at Holmfield for two years and then at Pilot Mound where he lost his wife in Sept, 1921 and infant son, Robert Walter in Jan 1922. In 1935 he moved back to the family farm. Mr. Cavers was quite active in the community affairs serving on Gowancroft School board. Pool Elevators board and Louise Consumers Co-operative. Besides being a member of the Pilot Mound United Church he was a member of the Canadian Order of the Foresters for over 50 years and also belonged to the Oddfellows Lodge. In October of 1950 he married Maude Rothwell (Morrow) and a year later. On Oct 31 they retired to 845 Garfield St. Winnipeg and then in 1961 moved to 6 Sandra Bay, Fort Garry. Besides his wife Maude, Mr.Cavers is survived by four sons Gordon and Ralph of Pilot Mound, Graham of La Riviere and Lloyd of Fort St. John, B.C; three sisters, Miss Mary (May) Cavers, Regina; Mrs. E Charters (Christina) of Viscount, Sask, and Miss Anne Cavers of Windsor, Ont; 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Hugh in 1942, a sister Margaret (Nettie) in 1956 and a brother John, in 1963. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 pm in the Windermere United Church Fort Garry. Rev. W.E Donnelly officated and Dwight Collins was soloist. Pallbearers were Murray, Elwood, James and Cliff Cavers, Barney Armstrong and Milford Preston. Internment was in Fort Garry Memorial Park, with Green Acres Memorial Chapel in care of arrangments."
