"Pincher Creek, Nov 1 - Robert Y Laidlaw, injured in a gasoline blast Thursday night, died here Sunday morning.
The late Mr Laidlaw was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, 64 years ago and came to Canada in 1903 settling at Pincher Creek with his brother William. In 1911 he married Elizabeth Blanch Dunwell. He was Alberta Pacific Grain Company agent from 1911 to 1923, manager of the Pincher Creek Co-operative Association 1923 to 1928, and agent of the Alberta Wheat Pool since that time.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters; Mrs C W Ramsden, Nelson, B C, Mrs J M Scott, Pincher Creek, Mrs V DeCillia, Cowley; two sons, Gordon of High River, and Don of Pincher Creek. A sister lives in Scotland. He was Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. A Masonic funeral for the deceased will be held Tuesday at 2.30 p.m. from the Anglican church

"Noted Banker Dead - The death has occurred in Edinburgh of Mr Douglas Laidlaw, former chief adviser for the Indian Zone of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China, and Agent of the Bombay branch. Mr Laidlaw began his banking career with the Union Bank in Scotland at the age of 16, and five years later joined the Chartered Bank in England. During his 42 years in India and the Far East he served the branches of the Bank in Penang, Kobe, Yokohama and Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Bombay, becoming accountant of the Bombay branch in 1930, and the following year became first sub-Agent and then Agent. In 1943 he was appointed chief adviser for the Indian Zone. He was chairman of the Exchange Banks' Association for nine years, and also served on the council of the Indian Institute of Bankers."
