"The Late Mrs. James Thomson
The death of Mrs. James Thomson occurred on Thursday, March 4 at her residence, Barrie Road. She was 60 years of age and had spent her whole life in Orillia Township. Margaret Dunn was a daughter of the late Thomas Dunn and was born at the homestead, now known as Dunedin Park. She is survived by two sons, Professor David Thomson, Seattle; Thomas at home and one daughter Mrs. C.S. Harvie, South Orillia. Four brothers and two sisters also survive, Joseph Dunn and David Dunn, Orillia; John, Price's Corner; Thomas, St. Ann, Manitoba; Mrs. William Bailey, Winnipeg; and Mrs. James Sinclair, Stonewall, Manitoba. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon, to St Andrew's cemetery, Rev. F.W. Anderson, minister of the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member, conducted the service."

Quite a gloom was cast over the Stirling district on Saturday the 5th inst., when it became known that Mr James Harvey had died suddenly that morning. Mr Harvey has resided in the district for the past 13 years — ever since his arrival in the colony — and has earned the respect and esteem of all with whom he came in contact. For the last two years his health has been far from robust, and it was known to his friends that he might be cut off suddenly at any time. Mr Harvey was a native of Eskdale in Dumfrieshire, and before he came to New Zealand was in the service of Sir Frederick Johnstone, Bart., of Westerhall, by whom he was highly esteemed, and when he left his service to come to this country Sir Frederick gave him a substantial token of that esteem. While at Westerhall Mr Harvey had frequent opportunities of seeing Lord Rosebery and spoke highly of the affability of that nobleman. Only the other day Mr Harvey told us that he had frequently heard Mr Shilling — Sir Frederick's steward — say that Lord Rosebery would yet be Premier oi England — a prediction that is now an accomplished fact. Mr Harvey was of a sociable and affable nature and had a cheery greeting for all. He took a lively interest in everything connected with the advancement of the district. Up till the day of his death he was one of the directors of Stirling Dairy Factory, and was formerly a member of the school committee. Some years ago he leased from Mr Anderson the farm of Mount Cooey adjoining Stirling: Mr Harvey was a thorough agriculturalist. Anyone who remembers the state parts of that farm was in with Canadian thistles, etc., when he got it, and looks at it now will see the great improvements Mr Harvey has made. His funeral took place on Tuesday last week and was one of the largest ever seen in the district, all turning out to pay the last tribute to one whom they so highly respected and esteemed. Mr Harvey leaves a widow and seven of a family — five sons and two daughters — all pretty well grown up. They have the heart-felt sympathy of all in the district in their sad bereavement. Mr Harvey was 60 years of age."

"Constable John James Harvey, senior police constable in New Zealand, who has served more than forty years in the force, will start three months' leave of absence on Saturday, after, which he will retire on superannuation. Constable Harvey has been in Wellington for twenty years, ten years of which have been spent as orderly in the Supreme Court. In recognition of his position in the force he received a medal at the silver jubilee of the late King George V. When the late King, as the Duke of Cornwall and York, visited New Zealand, Constable Harvey was one of the officers appointed to the tour.
The police career of Constable Harvey began in Christchurch, after which he served in Kaiapoi and Cheviot. He has done relieving duty in many places in New Zealand."

"MR GEORGE HARVEY, STIRLING
At an early hour on Tuesday morning a very familiar figure in the Stirling and Inch Clutha districts, in the person of Mr George Harvey, passed peacefully to his rest. The late Mr Harvey was a settler of over 30 years standing. Coming from Dumfries in the early seventies with his wife and young family he, in conjunction with his brother, who subsequently settled at Oamaru, settled at Inch Clutha, afterwards removing to Benhar district, and again taking up a farm on Inch Clutha, which he held until shortly after the death of Mrs Harvey, some two years ago, when he retired from active farm work and settled in Stirling. The late Mr Harvey was a kindly disposed, honorable and hospitable, farmer, and one held in much esteem throughout the whole of the Clutha district.
At the funeral on Wednesday, despite the very wintry weather, there were few families in a wide district who were not represented to pay their last token of respect to the departed. The Rev. Mr Ramsay, of Stirling, officiated at the grave side in a sympathetic and impressive manner.
The late Mr Harvey leaves behind a family of five sons and four daughters to mourn their loss. One daughter predeceased her father, otherwise the family, who are all settled in life, remains unbroken."3Gravestone.
