"Former Hawick Minister
The Rev Stewart Burns, M.A., who has died at his residence in Edinburgh in his 81st year, had been minister of St Mary's Church, Hawick, for 45 years. He had been an ordained minister of the Church of Scotland for 55 years. He retired from the ministry of St Mary's about ten years ago, and had since lived in Edinburgh.
Sympathetic Nature
Mr Burns, a native of Dundee, was a graduate of St Andrews University. He was of a most sympathetic nature, diligent in his duties, and during his ministry in Hawick he earned the affection not only of his flock but of his fellow ministers and the townspeople generally. In the affairs of the Presbytery of Hawick he was looked to for guidance and direction in times of difficulty. Mr Burns was predeceased by his wife a few years ago."

Confirmation Edinburgh, 11 February, to Jannet Murray Dow Burns, 22 Drumsheugh Gardens, Edinburgh, his daughter, Executor. Will dated 22 March 1934 recorded Edinburgh 10 February 1936. Value of Estate, £3042:15: 5."

"Many in the Border district will learn with deep regret of the death of Dr David Murray, which occurred at Hawick on Thursday evening. A native of Hawick, Dr Murray had a most successful and promising college career, and after practising at Renton and Edinburgh, he returned to his native town, where he joined in practise with his father-in-law, the late Dr Brydon, subsequently entering into partnership with Dr Davidson.

Report concludes by saying "He was 47 year of age", but this is incorrect as he was only 39 when he died."
